Imrie urges Accies to take inspiration from last season’s Ibrox win

- By RONNIE ESPLIN

Dougie Imrie is hoping for a repeat of history when Hamilton visit Rangers tomorrow.

Accies’ 2-0 away win over the Ibrox side over a year ago was their first top flight victory in Govan since 1926.

With Hamilton sitting third from bottom of the table, four points ahead of Dundee and St Mirren, the Accies attacker would like nothing more than what would be another shock result.

Imrie, 35, said: “It would be good because we need the points. We were excellent there last season all over the park and we were very unlucky here this season.

“I know the game finished 4-1 but that wasn’t a true reflection of the game, we matched

Dougie Imrie: Points needed. them for 81 minutes and the game changed when they got the penalty which wasn’t a penalty.

“But if we can emulate the performance at their place last season and the 81 minutes against them here we have a right good chance of getting something from the game.

“We kept it 0-0 to half-time, came out in the second half and got a goal after six minutes and straight away the fans were on top of them because they are expecting to win and then we got them on a counterattack and win the game 2-0.

“You have to ride your luck in those games as well. They had some unbelievable chances that they didn’t take.

“That’s how you win games. When they are not on fire, you have to take your chances when they come along.”
