Arbroath get job done to maintain healthy lead

-

Table-topping Arbroath were far from sparkling in their 1-0 win at Airdrie, but maintained the 13-point gap on Raith Rovers ahead of the sides meeting this weekend.

Ricky Little, who headed in the winner midway through the first half, said: “We still have to face Raith three times, so that’s nine points that they could get back, which means there is still a long way to go.”

Raith struck twice in the closing stages of a 4-2 to see off a visiting Dumbarton side who had taken an early lead when Ross Forbes lofted home a shot from 45 yards.

Daniel Armstrong’s header restored parity, but Michael Paton’s close-range volley had Dumbarton ahead again at the break. Kevin Nisbet equalised before Euan Murray and Lewis Vaughan scored the key goals.

Forfar came from behind to defeat Montrose 2-1 at Station Park thanks Dale Hilson’s double. Martin Rennie had slotted Montrose into the lead from the penalty but Hilson equalised with a fierce drive before scoring the winner ten minutes from time.

Bottom side Stenhousemuir went down 2-0 to East

Fife at Ochilview where Kevin Smith nodded in after 21 minutes and Anton Dowds netted the second in injury time.

Stranraer’s match with

Brechin City was postponed as the Stair Park pitch was waterlogged.
