Dubai delights? Roscoe prefers to be in Alloa

-

For most, there would be no contest. With Scotland in the grip of winter, the prospect of soaking up some sunshine in Dubai would be more than welcome at the start of a new year. But Aberdeen youngster Sam Roscoe disagrees, insisting Arabia has nothing on Alloa, wites Iain Collin.

The 20-year-old last week agreed an extension to his loan with the Wasps, ensuring it was the banks of the Firth of Forth and not the Persian Gulf for the defender.

“It was down to me whether I wanted to come back to Alloa and I took the opportunity straight away,” he explained. “I have loved it here and played every game I have been available for, and have been improving week-in, week-out. Hopefully, this will benefit me and Aberdeen and it’s also good for Alloa to keep me here.

“Aberdeen are in Dubai but I’d rather be in Alloa. I’ve seen a few pictures of the boys out in Dubai but it’s nothing compared to here! Not many people would say that but I’m going to stick by it!”

Roscoe played his part as Alloa extended their impressive unbeaten run to six games. Chris Millar drove Morton in front after 11 minutes but Alan Trouten’s 67thminute penalty was no less than the Wasps deserved and Kerr Waddell’s own goal ten minutes later, slicing his clearance into the net, left Jim Goodwin’s side as close to a play-off place as the bottom of the Championship table.

Can Alloa create an upset against St Mirren in the Scottish Cup?

Roscoe said: “We definitely don’t fear anybody, especially knowing the form we are in at the minute.”
