The independence debate is creating a false “divide” in Scotland, Jeremy Corbyn said in a speech at the Scottish Labour conference in Dundee last night. Corbyn insisted that the “real divide in our society” is not defined by independence or Brexit but income inequality.
@jeremycorbyn tweeted: “Labour now stands ready to transform Scotland and the UK”
@maskeldie commented: “And yet, Corbyn wants to deny Scotland the independence which would give it the financial and legal means to further reduce inequality! His entire game is gaining for Labour, whatever the cost to people”
@Gregoryhoare observed: “Jeremy Corbyn takes to the stage at the @scottishlabour conference and begins by saying only Labour has plan for investment in the Scottish people”
@andyphilip commented: “Jeremy Corbyn immediately getting points docked in Dundee for hailing Jute, Jam ... and Linen. We notice these things, Jeremy”
#IWDAY2019
International Women’s Day (IWD) was celebrated yesterday. The annual event was first staged by the
Socialist Party of America in 1909 before being adopted worldwide the following year.
@Nicolasturgeon said: “Happy #IWD2019 – thanks to all the amazing women in my life who inspire and support me every day”
@nicolesarauer
commented: “Feeling particularly overwhelmed this #IWDAY2019 with all the feelings. May we continue to grow, may we continue to fight, and may we continue to raise up others”
#BREXIT
Theresa May has asked the EU for “one more push” to get her Brexit deal through Parliament and warned that, if it fails, “we may never leave at all”.
@Samuelmarclowe
said: “It would be quite something if the backstop discussion comes full circle to a clarification that it can indeed be reverted to being entirely NI specific”
@nick_gutteridge added: “Unprecedented for @ Michelbarnier to tweet out the details of negotiations in this way. It shows just how angered the EU was by the excerpts of Theresa May’s speech released last night, which they saw as the UK starting a ‘blame game’ over who will be responsible”
