What’s the last piece of clothing you bought?

I got a parka in the sale at New Look in Holyhead while I was waiting for the ferry home to Ireland. It was very cold and I had no coat.

What are you addicted to buying?

Shoes, which is really daft, as I was born with deformed feet and can’t wear most of them. I generally buy Skechers for comfort and practicality and heels so I can look at them on my shoe shelf.

Best ever bargain?

A shiny blue cocktail dress that I got from River Island in a sale 20 years ago. It was £12.

Who has great style?

Victoria Beckham, because she keeps it simple. In my book, that’s best, as is the Coco Chanel little black dress look.

Name your favourite high street shop.

Next, River Island and New Look.

Any fashion disasters you’d care to tell us about?

In 1980, when told I would be attending the Breaking Glass screening at Cannes Film Festival, I made a brilliant pair of tight black stretchy trousers. However, they were so uncomfortable during the film that, in the darkness, I undid the zip so my belly had space. The film received a standing ovation. My director pulled me out of the seat to take a bow, the trousers got caught on the pile of the velvet chair and came down.

What’s your favourite item in your wardrobe?

That River Island dress. I can’t wear it anymore as the seams are coming apart, but I keep it in the hope that I can find the fabric and make another one following the pattern. For now, it’s on the shelf with the heels. n
