Beckham may appear in court for sentencing
Magistrates need “more information” to sentence former football David Beck ham after he admitted using his phone while driving his Bentley.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star might still have to appear in court to be sentenced.
The former England captain was charged last month with the driving offence after a member of the public spotted him on the phone while driving.
His case was sent to Bromley Magistrates’ Court to be dealt with by way of the Single Justice Procedure (SJP) yesterday.
But court staff said the case had been adjourned for a date to be set for a procedure known as “to show cause”.
The member of court staff said :“They[ the magistrates] have requested more information.
“It could be the circumstances under which it happened or it could be because they don’ t have enough information about the charge to make a decision.”
Police have confirmed the court received a guilty plea by post from Beckham. The proceedings can not be attended by members of the public or press.
It is believed the 43-yearold’s next hearing at Lavender Hill will be held in open court.
Beck ham was spotted driving his 2018 Bentley while using his phone in Great Portland Street on 21 November.
Beck ham avoided a speeding prosecution two months earlier.
