Scotland could one day become England’s saviour, with the southern half of the UK predicted to run perilously low on fresh water by the year 2050. UK Water director Peter Murphy pointed out that Loch Ness contains more fresh water than England and Wales combined.

@Seonaighbhf admitted: “This hurts my brain.”

@Paullon91475303 said: “With the amount of rainfall, the rivers, the lakes, the 168 reservoirs we have in this country, the chances of us running out of water is about the same as me having af**t on the moon.”

@swrain79 added: “@thesnp will be using it as a reason for independence.”

@efcgraham wrote: “You can imagine Sturgeon (the lady, not the fish) shouting ‘hey pal, that’s Scottish water, by the way’.” Meanwhile @Stuartwelsh4 joked: “Shocked at report that England could have no water in 25 years... and the cause is not even Brexit.”

Whisky giants Johnnie Walker have vowed to build the ‘best bar in the world’ in Edinburgh. The firm, which is busy transforming the former Fraser’s building on Princes Street into a world- class whisky tourist hub, say their planned rooftop bar will boast spectacular views of Edinburgh Castle. Twitter users, however, seemed more concerned with the potential prices than the pretty views...

@Billy_buroo wrote: “But how much will a glass of Buckfast on the rocks be?”

@Caomhanmacandra added: “Plenty of good bars in Edinburgh, that you won’t need a second mortgage to drink in!”

@Kallemet86 tweeted: “Bet it will be one of the most expensive in Scotland too, a tourist trap.” Welcoming the Johnnie Walker proposals,

@cuthbert_church added: “And the world’s best view of Edinburgh Castle is from the rooftop of St Cuthbert’s Church! Looking forward to welcoming our new neighbours.”

@Essentialedin chipped in: “The views from their Princes Street rooftop bar are sure to be spectacular – looking forward to further developments on this exciting project.”

@Eydmannheritage queried: “Did the developer of the proposed hotel @saveoldrhs former Royal High School not say they would create the best bar in Scotland? #Barwars”
