European Council President Donald Tusk has said EU leaders could agree to a short extension to the UK leaving the European Union, but only on the condition that MPS pass Theresa May’s deal in the House of Commons. The declaration had some wondering if Mrs May was being backed into a corner by EU chiefs.

@Majorgrubert tweeted: “Well that’s awkward, seeing as this extension was intended to get May’s deal through the Commons.”

@Superrichmedia wrote: “A clear attempt to pressurise MPS to vote in May’s deal. Makes you wonder if she didn’t plot this with him covertly.”

@stephenflynn123 added: “So the EU are now trying to force May’s terrible deal on us (which is coincidentally a great deal for them!). We’re getting shafted with the worst of all possible scenarios.”

@idiocyalert continued: “So we’re down to only two choices now, May’s deal or no deal. And we’ve already rejected both.”

@brian1franklin said: “Not much of a concession when they have a gun against her temple. If it’s like this now there is no chance of a trade deal once they have us in their power. Leavers must stay strong and say NO to this blackmail.”
