European Council President Donald Tusk has said EU leaders could agree to a short extension to the UK leaving the European Union, but only on the condition that MPS pass Theresa May’s deal in the House of Commons. The declaration had some wondering if Mrs May was being backed into a corner by EU chiefs.

Doctors have dealt a devastating blow to Edinburgh teenager Kira Noble with the news that the cancer she has been fighting since the age of 11 is treatable but incurable. The 15-year-old has vowed to keep battling against her affliction and will now begin a new experimental drug trial. Support for Kira was universal, with heartfelt posts praising the inspirational teen coming in thick and fast.
