High life in Edinburgh

-

Some properties advertised as renovation projects need little more than a lick of paint or an updated kitchen. But, if the work required is minimal, the property is not likely to be sold at much of a discount.

Allanmore Farmhouse at

Drumnadrochit on the shores of Loch Ness presents a real challenge, however, with an asking price that reflects the amount of work needed.

The house is more than 500 years old and is detached with five bedrooms, plus a living room, lounge, utility room and a diningkitchen. Private stairs from the kitchen lead to a further bedroom, so the layout as it is could suit use as a bed and breakfast business.

Allanmore has the classic checklist of a house crying out for upgrading – replete with swirly carpets, avocado bathroom suite and patchy render – while the home report also records less superficial challenges. Nevertheless, it is a characterful property in a good location with beautiful views.

There is also a sizeable garden which wouldn’t need too much work to bring up to scratch.

Drumnadrochit is 14 miles west of Inverness, which has excellent road, rail and air links.

The village itself has primary and secondary schools, churches, shops, a medical centre, hotels and restaurants, a village hall, a campsite and a tourist information centre.
