Speaking at First Minister’s Questions yesterday, Nicola Sturgeon told parliament that the only solution to the “broken government” of Westminster following the chaos of Brexit will be independence for Scotland. The First Minister also faced questions on Scotrail’s recent raft of cancellations and delays. Ms Sturgeon said it was “last chance saloon” for the rail operator.

@Kennywalker4 wrote: “I voted No in 2014 but like a lot of Scots will vote to leave in Indyref2. Personally think now is the time to go for it when RUK is preoccupied.”

@Stop_brexituk said: “If UK stays in EU there will be no need for Indyref2.”

@Millermattu tweeted: “I think that linking Indyref2 with outcome of Brexit remains sound. I also think we’re close to seeing it prevail. We are a week away from a no deal Brexit or whatever the hell may happen. Perfect conditions to announce an alternative route.”

@Soul_cleanser was resolute: “So apparently @Nicolasturgeon has announced today at #FMQS in the Scottish Parliament that she will make an announcement about #indyref2 within days. All I can say is we are ready for the fight to save the union.” Regarding the ongoing Scotrail crisis, @ Stewartmarkie defended the operator: “A lot of the problems are signalling and points failures. Network Rail’s domain. People don’t seem to get that.”

There was disbelief on Thursday as it was revealed that tickets for the next Ladbrokes Premiership clash between Celtic and Rangers on 31 March have appeared on resale websites for as much as £721. The total price includes ticket, delivery charges, booking fee and more than £100 in tax, while one site had more than 20 tickets available. Supporters from both ends of the Old Firm divide took to Twitter to vent their fury at the news. “Genuine fans miss out again,” wrote @ Edwardaitken1.

Celts fan @bhoyhood67 added: “Most buying these tickets ain’t Celtic fans I’d imagine. Most will be people who have cash and want to sample a Glasgow derby.”

@weeanniebananni agreed: “Totally disgusting!! Surely Celtic should know who has bought these tickets and put a block in this?”

@aquatickev2013 tweeted: “Idiots will pay that as well.”
