Claim IS defeated in Syria disputed

A claim that the Islamic State (IS) terror group’s last bastion in Syria have been defeated has been disputed.

The white house announced that its territory in the nation had been “100 per cent” eliminated, while President Donald Trump brandished a map to reporters apparently showing its destruction.

Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said they are not yet ready to claim victory in IS’S final stronghold of Baghouz, however. SDF spokesman Mustafa Bali said “heavy fighting continues”.
