Konta defeated by Wang in Miami Open

British No 1 Johanna Konta tumbled out of the Miami Open as she lost her second round match last night. Konta, the 2017 Miami champion, was defeated 6-4, 6-0 by Chinese No 18 seed Wang Qiang.

Meanwhile, three-time champion Victoria Azarenka was ousted by No 19 seed Caroline Garcia in their second-round match.

There were casualties among the seeds as Czech girl Marketa Vondrousova beat Jelena Ostapenko 7-5, 6-1; Bianca Vanessa Andreescu of Canada beat No 32 Sofia Kenin of USA 6-3, 6-3; Viktoria Kuzmova of Slovakia defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (No 31) 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 7-5; Venus Williams beat No 24 Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 and Monica Niculescu of Romania beat Garbine Muguruza (No 20) 7-6 (7-0), 4-6, 6-2.

In the men’s event, Dusan Lajovic of Serbia defeated No5seedkeinishikori.2-6, 6-2, 6-3.
