What’s the last piece of clothing you bought?

A Hoping for Palestine T-shirt.

What are you addicted to buying?

Books – do those count? My ability to buy books far exceeds my ability to read them and I’m a pretty fast reader. If books don’t count, I will admit to an immodest liking of shoes.

Best ever bargain?

Zainab market in Karachi has everything you could possibly think of – sandals, shawls, jeans, kohl eyeliner, the works. Everything there is wonderful and a bargain.

Who has great style?

My grandmother Nusrat Bhutto was incredibly elegant, she always wore beautiful saris and carried herself with grace, kindness and warmth. She was never flashy, which to me is the antithesis of style.

Name your favourite high street shop.

Uniqlo, easily.

Any fashion disasters you’d care to tell us about?

A velvet slouchy sweater that made my best friend laugh every time every time I wore it. I don’t know why she was always there when the sweater was taken for an outing but it seemed that no one but me appreciated its throwback 1980s vibe.

What’s your favourite item in your wardrobe?

Some things are sentimental, like my grandmother’s saris and a darkish pink button-down shirt my father bought me when I was 12 years old because he had a shirt in the same colour. He used to co-ordinate us wearing it on the same day which I thought was crazy at the time but it makes me happy to see it now. I wear it and think of him. Others are gifts from friends, I have some lovely dresses by Gül Hürgel, the Turkish designer, I live in Blaze blazers and shalwar kameez from The Pink Tree Company in Karachi. n The Runaways by Fatima Bhutto is out now (Viking, £14.99)
