- By ANGUS HOWARTH

Staff at a bar serving a “Lewis Capaldi” cocktail who said anyone with the same name could have one free were shocked when the chart-topping pop singer came in and claimed a drink.

Customers were also left stunned when the 22-yearold took advantage of the free offer and turned up at Glasgow’s So LA.

The city centre bar restaurant created a cocktail called “Bathgate to LA” in honour of the singersongwriter from the West Lothian town.

The pub announced the 0 Lewis Capaldi said of the drink: ‘It hits you in the face’

drink would be launched yesterday, National Cocktail Day, and said anyone called Lewis Capaldi would get one free.

However, staff didn’t expect the first person to taste the drink would be Mr Capaldi himself.

Capaldi, who has been top of the UK charts for 12 weeks with his single Someone You Loved, heard about the offer and posted an Instagram story tagging @solaglasgow saying “See you soon”.

He then turned up at the bar and posed for photographs before taking a booth and trying the drink.

So LA manager Iain Reid came up with the cocktail, a mix of roku gin, sake, Japanese ginger and lychee liqueur, to promote Glasgow Cocktail Weekend in September.

Asked how he liked the drink, Capaldi said: “It hits you in the face.”
