Kingussie claim the honours in first meeting of season with Newtonmore

Shinty’s greatest rivals, Newtonmore and Kingussie, met for the first time this season in the Mowi Premiershi­p, with Kingussie winning 3-1.

Savio Genini put the visitors ahead but ‘More’s Michael Russell soon levelled. Roddy Young and James Falcon- er scored after the restart to seal the win.

Greg Matheson grabbed a hat-trick, including a penalty, as league leaders Lovat thumped Caberfeidh 8-2 at Castle Leod. Kevin Bartlett scored twice for Cabers, one a penalty.

Kinlochshi­el drew 1-1 with Oban Camanachd at Mossfield, while newly promoted Kilmallie notched their second successive win as they beat Lochaber 2-1.

Kyles Athletic defeated Inveraray 3-1 in a match switched to Strachurmo­re, with Scott Macdonald scoring twice.

Mowi National Division leaders Fort William beat Skye 3-2 at An Aird with Padraig Mcneil getting a late winner.

James Macpherson’s hattrick helped Glenurquha­rt crush Oban Celtic 9-0 while Glasgow Mid Argyll drew 0-0 at Bute.
