Top two serve up goalless draw but Peterhead stay five ahead

-

Peterhead kept hosts Edinburgh City at bay in the race for the title as the meeting of the top two in front of a bumper crowd of 1, 057 fans at Ainslie Park ended 0-0.

The Blue Toon dominated the first half but the hosts took charge on the restart. City boss James Mcdonaugh said: “We were desperate to win but we did not manage it. We have not lost any ground and that is important as the gap would have been eight points.

“It remains at five and we are still in it.”

Blue Toon manager Jim Mcinally said: “We should have been out of sight at half-time and then in the second half I was glad to see the game out.”

Clyde’s rollercoaster title push was boosted with a 2-1 injury-time win over Annan at Broadwood.

Mark Lamont drilled the Bully Wee ahead midway through the second half but goalkeeper Blair Currie was sent off seven minutes from time after fouling Tommy Muir. Tony Wallace netted from the resultant penalty but the ten men hit back and Martin Mcniff’s header earned the win.

Mid-table Cowdenbeath and visitors Queen’s Park drew a blank and the Spiders left Central Park with a feeling of what might have been after missing a host of chances.

Issues at the foot of the table are heating up after Dylan Mackin’s controversial late penalty handed Stirling Albion a 1-0 win over second bottom visitors Berwick Rangers.

Albion Rovers won 2-0 at Elgin City thanks to Declan Byrne’s first-half double and a win over Cowdenbeath tomorrow night in their game in hand would lift the Coatbridge side off bottom spot for the first time this season.
