How the Scotland players rated

-

SCOTT BAIN

6 Goalkeeper had so little to do he could have taken his Sunday newspaper on to the field to keep himself occupied. However, he did manage to stay alert and did well to force Jose Hirsch wide when the San Marino player broke clear.

STEPHEN O’DONNELL

6 Kilmarnock player did nothing wrong and was comfortable in possession but, until the introduction of James Forrest in the second half, he suffered from lack of support down the right flank as he looked to get attacking moves going.

DAVID BATES

6 One worrying moment when the defender let Hirsch get past him. Otherwise dealt with what little threat was offered by the San Marino forwards. In possession, he was allowed plenty of space and his passing was generally accurate.

SCOTT MCKENNA

5 The Aberdeen man’s physical presence was enough as, alongside Bates, the home forwards were easily kept at bay. Occasionally threatened up front at set-pieces but missed one good chance with a header.

ANDREW ROBERTSON

6 The skipper put in his usual lively and enthusiastic performance and he was clearly eager to drive things forward after missing the debacle in Kazakhstan. He must have felt frustrated that his raids down the left were not finished off.

KENNY MCLEAN

6 Adjusted well to get Scotland off to a good start by meeting a poor cross with an excellent header. That should have been the prelude to more goals. Like most teammates, the Norwich man lapsed into a below-par performance.
