Worry for Juve as Ronaldo hobbles off

-

Cristiano Ronaldo went off injured during the first half of Portugal’s 1-1 draw with Serbia in last night’s Group D qualifying match in Lisbon.

The 34-year-old, who was playing in only his second international match since last summer’s World Cup finals, appeared to be suffering from a hamstring injury. The news will be a worry for his club, Juventus, who will soon face Ajax in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, the first leg of which is due to take place in Amsterdam on 10 April.

Serbia were leading 1-0 at the time, through Dusan Tadic’s seventh-minute penalty. Danilo equalised three minutes before half-time.

In England’s Group A, Kosovo and Bulgaria shared the points in a 1-1 draw in Pristina.

Slovan Bratislava defender Vasil Bozhikov headed Bulgaria in front from a corner after 39 minutes, before Kosovo, playing in their first European Championship qualifying campaign, equalised via Arber Zeneli’s shot from outside the penalty area in the 62nd minute.

England next face Bulgaria at Wembley on 7 September.
