Work begins on community wind farm
Construction has begun on a community wind farm project in North Uist after the project surpassed its fundraising target.
The North Uist Development Company (NUDC) raised an extra £100,000 more than needed for the Uistwind project – reaching £452,850 – to build two 900kw turbines at Criongrabhal, near Clachan-naluib.
The turbines are due to be operational by October this year and will provide a set price for electricity supplied. More than £2 million will be generated during the project’s 22-year lifespan.
