The family of the Grammynominated Swedish electronic dance DJ Avicii is launching a foundation in his memory.
The international pop star, whose name was Tim Bergling, died in Muscat, Oman, on 20 April, 2018. He was 28. Police said there was no evidence of foul play.
His family announced yesterday that the Tim Bergling Foundation “will initially focus on supporting people and organisations working in the field of mental illness and suicide prevention”.
It will also be active in climate change, development assistance, nature conservation and endangered species.
“Tim wanted to make a difference,” the statement concluded. “Starting a foundation 0 Avicii, aka Tim Bergling, died last April in Oman
in his name is our way to honor his memory and continue to act in his spirit.”
The international pop star performed his electronic dance songs at music festivals around the world and landed on US radio with his countrydance mashup Wake Me Up.
He had retired from touring in 2016.
