Celtic We can’t go Dutch

Ajax humbled the royalty of Madrid with a team of youth products, as the usual question was rolled out: “Why can’t teams from Scotland get results like that in Europe?” Those asking the question were missing the “look in the mirror” fact that makes the question ludicrous. It’s that fact that breaks the mirror if it is discussed as it proves that we are doing it all wrong.

The Dutch have produced better players than us for more than 40 years and the Eredivisie is a far better league than our Premiership. Ajax haven’t won the league since 2014 but have reached a Europa League final and a quarterfinal of the Champions League since. The Dutch have a talent pool we envy and are decades behind replicating. Our game needs revived and revolutionised. I won’t hold my breath.
