Byrne strike lifts Rovers
Albion Rovers climbed off the bottom for the first time this season thanks to a wonder strike by Declan Byrne.
Rovers’ Gregor Fotheringham headed a good chance wide on 16 minutes then Cowdenbeath forward Kris Renton was denied by a smart save by Peter Morrison.
Gary Fraser was also foiled by Morrison before the goal that Rovers craved came in fine style right on half-time.
Byrne, who hit two against former club Elgin at the weekend, showed another ex-employer what he could do when he cracked home a long-distance right-foot shot.
He was denied a second nine minutes after the restart when Aaron Lennox saved his drive, and Smart Osadalor fired over the Cowdenbeath bar shortly afterwards.
