#SPEEDLIMIT

New cars sold in the UK from 2022 are set to have devices fitted to stop them breaking the speed limit.

@awalker703 posted: “And pray tell us just how an advisory indication will stop drivers from breaking the speed limit?”

@vinceunlimited suggested: “If my car #camera automatically reads #Speedlimit plates to restrict my progress I may need to tape a photo of a national speed limit sign onto the end of a fishing rod and hang it out the front.”

@jhuntridge applauded: “I’m loving the idea of people in shiny new cars in 2022 being unable to drive as quickly as those in knackered old ones. Genius thinking.”

@Ellie9691 wondered: “EU proposing technology to mandate speed limits in cars! Good idea but at times acceleration is needed to evade accidents. Maybe in town centres it would be OK normally?”

#EDINTFEST

The Edinburgh International Festival could be thrown into chaos in the event of a no-deal Brexit, director Fergus Linehan warned as he unveiled its 2019 programme. The programme opens with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra playing at Tynecastle Park. @Stanleyhardy16 countered: “So what? The general public will be dying from lack of medicines and food.”

@Gjmunro26 joked: “Entertainment at Tynecastle? Easily the boldest move for a while.”

@Awrathall added: “Love, love, love that #Lapphilharmonic are playing @Jamtarts to kick off the @edintfest Excited already.”

#BARBARABUSH

A biography about former first lady Barbara Bush details her distrust of US president Donald Trump and her estrangement from the Republican Party. The Matriarch by Susan Page is set to be released next month.

@kylegriffin1 explains: “Details from new Barbara Bush book: *Bush blamed Trump for her heart attack. *She said by today’s terms, with Trump’s rise, she would not classify herself as a Republican. *Bush kept Trump Countdown clock. It sat next to her bed until the day she died.”

@Tcpalm adds: “Barbara Bush said she no longer recognised Republican Party but ‘we’re a strong country, and I think it will all work out’.”

@rouscar joked: “Anyone know where I can get a Trump countdown clock?!?”
