Ayr United TV games killing clubs

- Jeanne Kerr

Ayr play their first competitive game in three weeks on Friday. This give us nine games over a five-week period, 25 per cent of our full season. Three of these games will be live on BBC Scotland. This new idea of TV games is killing clubs.

Many reasons are being discussed by fans: Kick-off too early at 7:05pm, especially for travelling fans on Tuesday and Friday nights when people are working. Fewer fans at games and lack of atmosphere and this must affect the players. Host club loses money from hospitality, club shop merchandise and gate money. The astonishing thing is monies from these games gets split between clubs but the majority goes to the Premiership. Football game day was always a Saturday and should go back to that.
