Brexit chaos is ‘no way to run a country’
Politicians have been told Brexit chaos is “no way to run a country” as angry business leaders called for clarity and an end to the risk of a no-deal exit from the EU.
Addressing its annual conference with Theresa May’s deputy in attendance, the director general of the British Chambers of Commerce said MPS “cannot keep chasing rainbows” and said a no-deal Brexit would be a “flagrant dereliction of duty”.
“Too many critical questions remain unanswered,” Adam Marshall said. “No-one would run a business like this, and it is no way to run a country. It cannot be right that some in Westminster shrug off the possibility of shortages that could affect the well-being and jobs of many people.”
Meanwhile, the BBC reported last night that experts at the University of Sussex’s UK Trade Policy Observatory believe existing EU trade deals “rolled over” ahead of Brexit are in fact “incomplete”, and won’t guarantee companies continued trade access. Just eight of the EU’S 40 trade deals are ready for the UK to continue using them after Brexit.
