Lopez leads from Yates after climb

-

Colombian Miguel Angel Lopez’s victory on stage four of the Volta a Catalunya put him into the overall lead, just ahead of Britain’s Adam Yates.

The Astana rider attacked a number of times on the closing climb of La Molina and had a 16-second advantage at the finish, with that victory earning him a further ten-second bonus to put him 14 seconds clear at the top of the standings.

Yates finished fifth on the day and is three seconds ahead of Team Sky’s Egan Bernal with three stages remaining.

Belgium’s Thomas De Gendt, leader after stage two, dropped to 30th place after finishing almost nine minutes behind Lopez.
