1pm

Ease along the coastal walkway into Los Abrigos, appreciating its dramatic Atlantic setting and views towards Gran Canaria.

1:30pm

Head for the Restaurant Los Abrigos. Their own fishing boat bobs outside. Inside fresh seafood is the star. Local fish cherne is a winner as are the bone dry Lanzarote white wines.

3pm

Stick your head inside the Cofradia fishermans’ co-operative next door and see the delights of the deep, which couldn’t be any fresher.

5pm

Return to the hotel admiring the otherworldly lava rock formations where the eruptions met the Atlantic.

8pm

The hotel’s buffet restaurant is no great shakes, so it’s worth checking out the onsite steak restaurant, where you can enjoy a properly rare fillet backed up a glass of Tenerife red.

Saturday, 9am

After breakfast by the pool take a taxi or drive to Medano, the beach resort town of choice for the Tinerfenos. Stroll along its boulevard checking out the kiteboarding and surf action.

11am

Recline with a coffee or an ice cold bottle of Dorada, the excellent local beer in the Flashpoint Café. You’ll feel most at home if you’ve left your surfboard outside.

Midday

Stay on relaxing by the surf for a light lunch in Flashpoint.

1:30pm

Surf ’s up now with both rental and tuition available in Medano. The schools here are well versed in taking out complete beginners.

7pm

Settle in for creative tapas at Imperio del Pintxo with a view of wee Playa Chico.

9:30pm

Back at the hotel take in a show with superb performers brought in from mainland Spain.

Sunday, 8am

Enjoy a sunrise stroll along the waterfront walkway then a last dip in the resort’s myriad choice of swimming pools. ■
