Broadband customers will now get cash back
Broadband and landline customers will get money back from their providers when things go wrong, without having to fight for it, from today.
Previously, only around one in seven broadband or landline customers who suffer delayed repairs, installations or missed engineer appointments have received compensation from their provider; and even then, only in small amounts.
The new compensation will see people paid £8 per day without service from the third day and £25 per missed appointment.
BT, Sky, Talktalk, Virgin Media and Zen Internet hadalreadysigneduptothe scheme, while Hyperoptic and Vodafone have also agreed, and will start payingcompensationlaterthis year – together accounting for more than 95 per cent of broadband and landline customers in the UK.
