Self-employed upbeat over prospects in 2019

- By SCOTT REID

Confidence among Britain’s self-employed workforce has risen sharply, a report today would suggest.

The research from Kensington Mortgages found that selfemployed workers were optimistic about their opportunities for work in 2019 with an overwhelming majority eager to reap the benefits of new technology.

There are currently some 4.85 million self-employed workers in the UK, making up 15 per cent of the workforce, and 81,000 people opted to pursue self-employment over the course of 2018.

Craig Mckinlay of Kensington Mortgages said: “Considering wider economic and political uncertainty, it’s refreshing to see such optimism and open-mindedness among the UK’S self-employed workforce.”
