Klopp happy to win ugly as Liverpool back on top

-

Jurgen Klopp admitted Liverpool had won ugly and got lucky but was happy to take that after their last-gasp victory over Tottenham.

The title-chasing Reds reclaimed top spot in the Premier League thanks to an injury-time own goal at Anfield. Toby Alderweireld was the unfortunate player to turn into his own net after Hugo Lloris failed to hold a Mohamed Salah header, handing Liverpool a 2-1 win.

Manager Klopp said: “Of course it was a lucky punch, the header and the ball rolls in. But I told the boys after the game there are 500,000 different ways to win a football game and today was rather ugly. No problem, we take that.”

Liverpool had led at halftime after a 16th-minute header from Roberto Firmino but Spurs recovered after the break and claimed an equaliser in the 70th minute through Lucas Moura.

Meanwhile, Cardiff manager Neil Warnock branded Premier League officials the “worst in the world” after Chelsea capitalised on a refereeing blunder to produce a dramatic 2-1 comeback win.

Chelsea were 1-0 down with six minutes left when Cesar Azpilicueta, standing two yards offside, met Marco salon so’ s flick-onto head home the equaliser.

Ruben Loftus-cheek punished Cardiff further in stoppage time, leaving Cardiff to count the cost of assistant referee Eddie Smart’s failure to spot that Azpilicueta was clearly offside. “It’s almost like it’s not who you play, it’s who you get to referee and who is going to have a flag in their hand nowadays, it’s just as important,” Warnock said. “The best league in the world and probably the worst officials.”
