- By CRAIG P STEWART

It was topsy-turvy day in the Championship with bottom side Alloa defeating long-time leaders Ross County 1-0atthe Indodrill Stadium.

The Wasps were buzzing from the kick-off and Jack Aitchison warmed the palms of Scott Fox early with a stinging drive, the Dingwall goalkeeper denying the striker a goal when he touched his goalbound effort over the bar.

Kenny Ven Der Weg headed a chance for the visitors over before Dario Zanatta fired Alloa in front on 33 minutes when he ignored appeals for offside against Aitchison and darted through the visiting defence before shooting past Fox.

County pushed to get level in the second half but Alloa goalkeeper Neil Parry produced two fine stops from substitute Ross Stewart to secure the three points.

Winning manager jim good win, pictured, said :“I was disappointed that we were only the one goal ahead at the interval but I am delighted with the result. Our players stood up to the pressure put on them.”

County stay two points clear at the top and play their game in hand against Inverness Caledonian Thistle tomorrow night. Co-manager Steven Ferguson said: “We did not start well and never played ourselves out of that.

“We have to dust ourselves down and be ready for Inverness. This result will give us extra drive for the challenges ahead.”

Dundee United failed to take advantage of County’s slip-up as they went down 2-1 at home to Queen of the South. The Doonhamers, who had lost their last seven Championship games, took the lead when Stephen Dobbie dusted himself down after being barged by Sam Stanton and slotted home a penalty seven minutes into the second half. Five minutes later, Lyndon Dykes ran on to a flick by Dobbie to slide the ball through Benjamin Siegrist’s legs and double the lead.

United responded through a Nicky Clark header with 19 minutes left.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Falkirk picked up a point apiece in a goalless draw in the windy Highlands.

Caley came the closest to winning when Aaron Doran slipped an effort past Bairns goalkeeper Harry Burgoyne but Jordan Mcghee popped up on the line to clear.

Morton have been dragged into the relegation dogfight after losing 3-0 at home to Partick Thistle. The evergreen Kris Doolan accepted a pass from Jack Mcmillan and slipped a shot away from Robbie Mccrorie to open the scoring on 17 minutes.

Steven Anderson forced home the second 18 minutes later, and Doolan wrapped up the points before the break when he turned in a pass from Scott Mcdonald.
