Double strike by Hearts’ M-force seals victory in Reserve Cup final
MOTHERWELL 0
HEARTS 2
Moore 52, Morrison 63
Hearts lifted the SPFL Reserve Cup at Tynecastle Park last night as goals by Lewis Moore and Callumn Morrison proved enough to see off Motherwell.
Moore opened the scoring early in the second half as he showed admirable endeavour to rob Yusuf Hussain, before exchanging passes with Rory Currie and lashing a low drive beyond Rohan Ferguson despite a difficult angle.
It took only ten minutes for Andy Kirk’s Jambos to double their advantage through the continually dangerous Morrison.
The 19-year-old, who has made 35 appearances for the first team this term, slammed home from close range after
Dario Zanatta left David Devine for dead on the flank and delivered a perfect cross.
Motherwell, managed by former Rangers ace Maurice Ross, will look back ruefully
at chances for Jamie Semple – their most impressive performer – in the first 45 minutes, the midfielder denied by Hearts keeper Kelby Mason and fizzing another effort
wide. Devine also saw an injury-time header cleared off the line by Ryan Edwards as Motherwell sought to spark a late revival.
However, Hearts held firm
and ultimately deserved their triumph, with Harry Cochrane and Andy Irving particularly impressive in the heart of midfield for Kirk’s team.
