- By DAVID MEIKLE

Conservative peer Lord Tebbit has called on the BBC to ban comedian Frankie Boyle after he made a joke about the IRA on his latest show.

The politician hit out at the Scottish comedian for saying it may be a relief for Theresa May to resign after spending a weekend at Chequers with leading Brexiteers.

Boyle, 46, said “where the f*** are the IRA when you need them?” during his show on BBC Two.

Lord Tebbit, whose wife was paralysed in the 1984 IRA Brighton bombing, has demanded the BBC ban Boyle from TV screens.

He said: “What he said was highly offensive. IRA terrorist attacks are no laughing matter and the BBC shouldn’t have 0 Lord Tebbit called for BBC ban on Frankie Boyle over IRA

him on television.” Lord Tebbit was pulled from rubble in the aftermath of the 1984 IRA bombing of the Grand Brighton Hotel in the seaside resort. It targeted the top tier of the Conservative government, prime minister Margaret Thatcher narrowly escaping the blast, which killed five and left 31 injured.
