Ten killed in ‘bank robbery’

Brazilian police have said ten people were killed in a shooting between alleged robbers and its elite squad in the outskirts of the country’s biggest city.

A statement from Sao Paulo state police said the shooting took place during an attempted robbery of two bank branches in Guararema, a city outside Sao Paulo with 28,000 residents.

According with police, at least 25 suspected criminals were about to set explosives to the bank branches’ ATM machines when officers arrived.

Police said agents chased the alleged criminals through the city, 50 miles north of Sao Paulo.
