A Scottish Governmentrun survey has found that people born in the rest of the UK and Europe are healthier on average than indigenous Scots. Tory health spokesperson Miles Briggs said the findings were “deeply concerning”. The data proved to be a big talking point across social media.

@Llbruce wrote: “We got fizzy juice delivered, but not the milk, when I was a kid. I’m not surprised.”

@hillskitchen1 responded: “Bad health and poverty go hand in hand.”

@Oldyun said: “Clearly, something more radical than alcohol pricing and a sugar tax are required in order to combat poor lifestyle choices.”

While @Rainyrat quipped: “Scots: the only people to have successfully made pizza less healthy.”

@Prtrait said: “It’s true. We also have worse dress sense. If you have travelled in Europe then you can walk down any Edinburgh street and point out, “Spanish. French. Italian. German. Some kind of Scandinavian”.”

@gbrnde added: “I saw a guy on the train with a toastie loaf and 8 cans of Irn Bru in his arms. Is there a better description of the Scottish diet?”

@Poxvomitus said: “Most of the illnesses caused by the so-called inequalities are down to lifestyle choices. The prescription is simple - eat less, excercise more, stop smoking, cut down on drinking and stop pretending you’re a victim.”

#BORDERSRAIL

A pregnant women became ill and two other passengers passed out as a result of overcrowding on the Borders Railway today, MSPS were told yesterday at First Minister’s Questions.

@retroactiveman wrote: “Okay, so this is not exactly great news but can’t help notice the complete and utter silence now from all those who said the project was a waste of money because there would be no demand!”

@sparklefizz tweeted: “Scotrail say the trains are still safe to run when super busy, but with no regard for passenger comfort. Disgraceful!”

@Personanongrata added: “What will tourists and other visitors make of it? They will think we are a 3rd world country.”

@momccraw72 fumed: “Where’s health & safety? No train should be overcrowded!” Tweeting to Scotrail, @ Orlysheepboy said: “Stop saying it’s safe, giving people anxiety attacks is not safe, nor is having people faint.”
