Labouring at sums
It was interesting to note that in his opinion piece on 3 April, Ian Murray blamed the SNP abstentions for the failure of Ken Clarke’s customs union amendment to achieve a majority vote in parliament.
There is just one tiny flaw in his logic – the amendment had 273 votes for and 276 against, with 10 Labour MPS voting against. Either Mr Murray is being deliberately disingenuous, or is simply not too good at arithmetic.
