It was interestin­g to note that in his opinion piece on 3 April, Ian Murray blamed the SNP abstention­s for the failure of Ken Clarke’s customs union amendment to achieve a majority vote in parliament.

There is just one tiny flaw in his logic – the amendment had 273 votes for and 276 against, with 10 Labour MPS voting against. Either Mr Murray is being deliberate­ly disingenuo­us, or is simply not too good at arithmetic.
