Opticians in expansion move with buy-out deal
A Scottish independent optician chain has expanded its geographic patch with the acquisition of a town centre outlet.
Urquhart Opticians, which was established more than 100 years ago in Kilmarnock, has moved into Ayr with the opening of its fourth practice after a deal to acquire Optical Outlet, which will now be rebranded and led by optometrist Carol Semple.
The six-figure deal will see Urquhart become a four-practice business, adding to existing sites in Kilmarnock, Prestwick and Troon.
Business partner Peter Telfer said the deal reflects the firm’s confidence in providing eyecare from traditional town centre locations.
