Butcher aims to dice with BTCC’S best

-

Honda driver Rory Butcher is aiming to make his mark in his second season in the British Touring Car Championship, starting at Brands Hatch this weekend.

Butcher, who has secured a sponsorship deal with Ladbrokes for the new season, believes he has the car, the backing and the insight to be a force to be reckoned with.

The Fifer, whose family run the Knockhill racing circuit near Dunfermline, races a Honda Civic for the Cobra Sport AMD with AUTOAID/RCIB Insurance team.

He was fifth fastest in a test day at the Kent track last week but the 32-yearold said: “I’m still learning the craft of BTCC but I feel my prospects are good.

“It’s about piecing together a full season where you are really building towards a championship.

“I’m really looking forward to the start of the season. We’ve got a really competitive package with the people I’ve got around me and the car.

“It’s really cut and thrust and really difficult to score points in all 30 races – but if you can do that you have a real shot of fighting for the Championship.”

The series involves 30 drivers in 15 teams, with 30 races at eight venues. It visits Knockhill on 14 and 15 September.
