As the SNP Scottish government continue to obsess over

Independence, and passengers faint inside overcrowded trains (your report, 5 April), the Labour Government in Wales is getting on with the day job. It has created Transport for Wales and replaced Arriva Trains Wales with a new operator. It is opening new lines, one from Wrexham to Liverpool Airport in the next few days, while others are being electrified. It is replacing all trains by 2023. Stations are getting a deep clean. It has listened to passengers’ concerns about delays and cancellations, and is introducing new fares.

The Labour Party’s policy nationally is to nationalise the railways, ending franchises as soon as possible. Instead of continually kicking this into the long grass, to join the Tourist Tax introduction and the Air B&B short term housing scandal, it really is time for the Scottish Government to start detailed planning for the termination of the Abelio / Scotrail franchise at the earliest possible time.
