Salah ends his goal famine with superb solo strike to send Liverpool to the summit

- By ED ELLIOT

Mohamed Salah ended his goal drought in sensational style as Liverpool reclaimed top spot in the Premier League by coming from behind to beat relegation-threatened Southampton 3-1.

Egyptian striker Salah, right, ran from his own half to find the net for the first time in nine games, ten minutes from time, to send his title-chasing side two points ahead of Manchester City at the summit.

Southampton, who had failed to find the net in the previous five league meetings between the clubs, had quickly ended that three-year drought when Shane Long opened the scoring inside nine minutes, smashing the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. Nine minutes before the break, Liverpool equalised when Trent Alexander-arnold delivered an inviting cross which Naby Keita powerfully headed beyond the grasp of goalkeeper Angus Gunn. With time ticking away Liverpool looked set to be held to a costly draw until Salah superbly intervened.

Jordan Henderson sealed the victory four minutes from time when he tapped home Roberto Firmino’s low cross.
