Law firm Harper Macleod hails new partners
Law firm Harper Macleod, one of Scotland’s largest professional partnerships, has unveiled five new partners across the country. The promotions of Edinburgh-based Scott Milligan in employment, along with colleagues Andrew Upton in dispute resolution, Collette Miller in public sector and social housing, and Lorna Davis in employment in Glasgow, and Jill Fryer in public sector in Inverness, take the firm’s number of partners to 67. Harper Macleod chairman Lorne Crerar said: “I am thrilled to have these fantastic colleagues join me as partners of Harper Macleod. While legal business models are changing, the ambition of many young lawyers remains to make partner one day and it’s a great pleasure to be able to reward their tireless efforts by making that dream a reality.”
● Fellow legal heavyweight Brodies LLP has underlined its commitment to its strategic plans with the appointment of two new partners. Elaine Farquharson-black, a recognised leader in planning, will add further strength to the firm’s
housebuilding and planning teams. She joins Brodies from Burness Paull, where she was head of both its planning division and property and infrastructure department. Bolstering the firm’s oil and gas expertise is Bryan Wilson. Former general counsel for Maersk and latterly Total following the Maersk-total merger, Wilson has led a number of significant oil and gas projects and has experience with operators and service companies in the UK, Scandinavia and the Middle East.
● Ledingham Chalmers has announced seven promotions, including two at partner level, in its Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Stirling offices. The announcement comes shortly after the
firm hired renowned employment law specialist John Lee as partner in Edinburgh in February; associate Sarah Kiersgaard joined the Stirling rural team in the same month; and senior solicitor Pamela Sargent joined theinvernesscommercialproperty team in March. The fullservice law firm said these promotions, effective from last Saturday, are in line with its continuing focus on growth in sectors including rural, commercial property and private client. Phyllis Garden, from the firm’s private client team in Aberdeen, and Linda Tinson, from the Stirling office, previously head of rural, land and business, have both been promoted to partner. Other Aberdeen promotions see Erica Buchan, also from the private
client team, become a senior associate, while Lois Craig from the rural team and Mhari Michie from commercial property move up to senior solicitor. Emily Horn from the rural team in Stirling and Megan Calder from litigation in Edinburgh are also promoted to senior solicitor level.
● Shepherd and Wedderburn has appointed partner and private client specialist Gillian Campbell to lead its offering to private individuals and families, business owners and entrepreneurs in the north of Scotland. Campbell, who is based in the firm’s Aberdeen office, is a private client practitioner who advises individuals and families on a broad range of private client matters, ranging from complex executry work to trusts and inheritance tax planning. She joins from Burnett & Reid, where she previously headed its private client practice. Malcolm Rust, head of Shepherd and Wedderburn’s private client team, said: “We are delighted that a specialist of Gillian’s calibre has joined our growing team.”
● Enermech has hired Emmanuelle Marshall as group HSE director. She will be responsible for global health, safety and environment at the Aberdeen-headquartered mechanical and electrical services specialist. Previously she was BP lead for the multinational’s global HSE learning and development capability and over an 18-year period at Schlumberger she took on a number of senior roles. Enermech chief executive Doug Duguid said: “This appointment demonstrates our long-term commitment to our HSE delivery as we continue to invest and to grow our business across all of our markets globally.” Marshall said: “I have joined Enermech at a very exciting time as it embarks on the next phase of growth, following a successful first ten years in which it has enjoyed huge success across the major international oil and gas hubs and made significant inroads in to other allied industries.”
● Glacier Energy Services has named Andrew Muir as Caspian regional manager to further the company’s growing business activities there. The move comes as it has been working in the region in recent years. Muir joined Glacier in 2018 to work with its business development team, focused on diversifying its work in power and petrochemicals. Bringing a track record in sales and business development and a technical background, he will support all Glacier’s product and service lines to identify growth opportunities in the region, and said: “I look forward to taking on a new challenge with Glacier. The Caspian region is a fast-evolving market and I believe there are strong opportunities for the business.”
