Battle heading for Tripoli: Civilians in danger as fighting escalates

A Libyan fighter loyal to the Government of National Accord (GNA) fires a machine gun while taking cover with comrades behind a dirt barrier during clashes with forces loyal to strongman Khalifa Haftar south of the capital Tripoli’s suburb of Ain Zara.

Magdalena Mughrabi, Amnesty International’s deputy director for the Middle East and North Africa, said all parties were obliged international humanitarian law to protect civilians.
