#BREXTENSION

EU leaders have agreed to grant the UK a Brexit extension until the end of October, with a review in June.

@cairnstoon said: “Personally I think the EU is enjoying watching Britain eat itself alive so much they’ve decided to treat themselves to another six months of it.” @Rivaeardley asked: “OK, who else is planning their Brextension Halloween costumes?” @Cornish_damo said: “So if Brexit hasn’t been enough of a nightmare already, with the new Brextension it’s now a Halloween Brexit – couldn’t be more apt for this zombie government and its zombie leader.” @malcolmjeffries added: “It’s amazing how 27 world leaders can have a bit of dinner and after a few hours work out and agree on a plan to accommodate our parliament’s incompetence.”

#JACKIEBIRD

The face of Reporting Scotland has unexpectedly quit the show after 30 years. @Bbcjohnbeattie said: “This was Jackie Bird’s last goodbye on Reporting Scotland, she knew, some senior management knew, most of us didn’t. No fuss, no big fanfare, Jackie is a oneoff and will be missed on this programme. The ultimate hard-working, wisecracking professional.” @kevgeb1983 said: “Can’t believe National Treasure Jackie Bird will no longer be presenting Reporting Scotland. Devastated.” @deesidedon was less impressed: “Hopefully that will be Jackie Bird finished on the Hogmanay programme too.” @Criosdubhskye added: “She will most certainly NOT be missed. The ultimate propaganda mouthpiece, but alas, they will just find another compliant useless idiot to replace her.”

#ISRAELFOLAU

Seasoned Australian rugby international Israel Folau has been fired after he posted a homophobic post on social media.

@perthnow said: “Rugby Australia has confirmed Israel Folau’s contract is set to be terminated after the Wallabies star posted a homophobic slur online.” @thepaulwilliams said: “I don’t like seeing anyone losing their job. But Israel Folau has become a habitual linestepper. If you said any of his comments, in any job, you’d be sacked. Good move from the ARU.” @Sonjamclaughlan added: “Those failing to tackle racism in football take note.”
