‘Amazing adventure’
With sandstorms, heavy rain, searing heat and towering sand dunes, the 3,000-mile Carta Rallye in the Sahara is one of the world’s toughest desert rallies.
And for the Future Terrain team of disabled war veterans, it was even harder than some of their competitors as they drove budget 4x4 vehicles, rather than specially modified rally cars costing hundreds of thousands of pounds.
But sometimes a challenge is exactly what humans need. And so it proved. George Frost, who suffers from complex PTSD, admitted
he had been nervous about his first trip back to a desert environment since serving in the military. But he said the “amazing adventure” had helped his mental health and he would “probably do it again”. And Scott Garthley, of Edinburgh, said the trip – and their good performance in the race – “did a lot for everyone’s spirit”.
Some hard graft, a bit of excitement, working together with others as a team – these are all good for you. And you don’t need to go to the Sahara to find it. So take inspiration from Future Terrain and do something for your spirit too.
