“And the wonderful @metpoliceuk who kept the street closed and everyone safe. #gratitude.”

London Fire Brigade commissioner Dany Cotton responded to Dame Joan’s post, tweeting: “Thank you for your kind message.

“Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help.”

The actress later shared a video on Instagram showing her charred, peeling walls.

“Oh God!” she can be heard saying, as she pans the camera around to show the damage.

London Fire Brigade said the cause of the fire was under investigation.

A spokesperson said: “Two fire engines and around ten firefighters were called to a fire at a flat on Eaton Place in Belgravia. Part of a flat on the first floor of the seven-storey building was damaged by the fire. Two people left the property before the brigade arrived.
