Firm commitment

Workers will be offered the right to buy their companies if they are up for sale or facing closure, the Scottish Labour Party said. The party has backed up its proposals with research showing that employee-owned firms make more money.

An excellent idea. And I say that as a Scottish Tory.

Glags Don’t Pay Bills Hooray, Richard Leonard has a good idea.

TUS often tell owners how to better run their businesses, so now let them prove that the worker/owner can do a good job. I wish the railways were run by the workers and that pay and pensions depended upon the result; the same applies in many other instances. We might even get rid of the twin curses of capitalists and socialists.

Andy Mac

Sorry, how do the workers not have this right already? What’s stopping them submitting a winning bid?

Toosh None whatsoever, and it happens regularly.

Spooked Nothing at all, apart from the fact that they will be relying on money from government, Highlands and Islands Enterprise or charities or the Lottery that will help them “buy out”. Just like on Jura or part of Lewis. They don’t buy it with their own money.

“All the evidence”? Nonsense, the Triumph Workers Cooperative part-funded by the taxpayer with Wedgie Benn’s enthusiastic support still collapsed in debt.

Callumity

This is an excellent idea that all parties should support. It will find the vast majority of Scots in favour of it .

Aristides de Sousa Mendes

Works for quite a few companies. John Lewis employees benefit from how hard they work! The biggest problem for companies, especially smaller ones, is the domination of online advertising by a few multibillion dollar companies. Why not return the internet to what it was supposed to do, educate and inform people not rip them off in anyway anyone can think of.
