Hearts fan banned over smoke bomb

- By CONNOR GORDON

A Hearts supporter will miss the Scottish Cup final after trying to sneak a smoke bomb into Hampden Park.

Stuart Brunton was caught as he turned up for the Jambos semifinal clash with Inverness Caledonian Thistle last Saturday.

The 21 year-old, from Gracemount in Edinburgh, was held after a smoke canister fell out his pocket after going through the turnstiles.

His arrest led to Brunton appearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

Bruton pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing a controlled substance that emits smoke.

He will be sentenced next month.

Sheriff Allan Findlay has meanwhile banned him from entering a football stadium within the UK. It means Brunton will not be back at Hampden for the Hearts and Celtic final on 25 May.

Hearts manager Craig Levein said in the cup semifinal build-up he wanted fans who brought shame on Scottish football to be banned from stadiums for life following allegations of pyrotechnics being thrown at the Edinburgh derby.
