#NOTREDAME

People around the world have shared their memories of the gothic monument after it was gutted by an inferno. Several French billionaires have pledged hundreds of millions of euros to fund repairs.

@Pontifex wrote: “Today we unite in prayer with the people of France, as we wait for the sorrow inflicted by the serious damage to be transformed into hope with reconstruction. Holy Mary, Our Lady, pray for us.”

@LIAMWBZ said: “Wow. French billionaire Francoishenri Pinault (who also happens to be Salma Hayek’s husband) has just pledged 100 million Euros to rebuilding the Notre Dame.”

@theresa_may said: “To underline our solidarity with France and her people, the bells at Westminster Abbey will toll at 5.43pm this evening to mark the moment the fire began yesterday.”

@Anteaibra wrote: “Can’t believe I’m seeing this. It’s like someone took a piece of our hearts and threw it away. This is a big piece of our history... an 850-yearold building is falling down in front of our eyes.”

@Jacquesgoullou added: “An unknown, hard to define, yet very deep and intimate part of me was burnt with Notre Dame last night. I thought about that strange emotion all day and it suddenly got to me: we, French, are French thanks to Notre Dame.”

#ARETHAFRANKLIN

The late soul superstar was awarded the Pulitzer Prize Special Citation for her ‘indelible’ contribution to music and culture. She is the first individual women to earn the prize. @Newshour said: “Aretha Franklin is still getting R-ES-P-E-C-T after death: The Queen of Soul received the Pulitzer Prize Special Citation honour Monday.” TV producer @shondarhimes wrote: “Just...yes. Our forever Queen of Soul.” @Reeltalker added: “*teardrop*”

#NORTHBRIDGE

The bridge in the heart of Edinburgh was closed by Extinction Rebellion environmental protesters yesterday. @Archibaldjenn said: “Just passed the Extinction Rebellion roadblock on North Bridge. Beautiful empty streets far past the roadblock as road traffic avoids the area. @katewhitaker1 added: “North Bridge with no traffic is pretty sweet. Imagine if this was everyday.”
