A little green

-

Green MSP Patrick Harvie

has warned the Snp-dominated government not to rely on rising oil prices. In a statement to The Scotsman (11 April) he said: “An economic plan for Scotland that is based on the price of oil is not only doomed to fail, but it condemns us all to climate breakdown. It’s time for the SNP to break its fossil fuel addiction and to work with us to deliver an urgent transition to a green post-oil economy that’s good for the planet and good for Scotland”. Fine words, but he is certainly no Churchill.

He should take off his greentinted glasses, come down from his green ivory tower and take his green head out of the green sand and admit that Scotland, with 0.13 per cent of global emissions, is an insignificant player.

The world has huge oil deposits, even bigger shale gas reserves and abundant coal reserves, so does Mr Harvie really expect countries to leave it in the ground?

Get back on your bike Mr Harvie and keep pedalling – preferably towards China and its 30 per cent of global emissions and growing.
