Aberdeen Embarrassing statement
Last weekend demonstrated why Scottish football is broken. The problem can be demonstrated in two examples: first, the authorities’ decision to allow, despite many safety announcements, complete blocking of stairwells at Hampden by fans in the Celtic end, while fans in the Aberdeen end were threatened with removal for standing, individually, in a stairwell. Such a decision was a tacit admission that the authorities will take no action against certain groups of fans for fear of further disorder and they have effectively handed the power to those fans.
Secondly, the embarrassing whataboutery statement issued by Celtic over the sectarian abuse from their fans. By choosing to claim victimhood they are condoning instead of condemning their own fans’ behaviour.
